The aim of this Section is to derive Ptolemy's (perfected) system of
deferents, epicycles, and equants from Kepler's laws of planetary motion.
The analysis is restricted to the Sun, the Earth, and the five planets visible to the naked
eye. Furthermore, the precession of the equinoxes, and any orbital perturbations due to inter-planetary gravitational
forces, are neglected.
